This will be different for every club, but I think set pieces are still vastly underused in football. A set piece gives a team the opportunity to play an unopposed pass from a controlled situation and teams should be much more effective at retaining possession or creating chances from these set pieces. Even if these gains are only marginal in a single game, they can make a difference at the highest level, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more teams follow Liverpool’s lead in signing set piece specialists.
