Experts and analysts said the session on “Alternative Currencies in the Digital Age” at this year’s Annual Business Law Conference (a hybrid conference) of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on business law (NBA-SBL) is a session not to be missed. by legal practitioners, technology entrepreneurs, business executives and other stakeholders, as it promises to be intriguing not only because a panel of highly knowledgeable practitioners and industry players would discuss ‘another technological advancement, but also because the discussion would center on the disruption of money. himself!

A disruption that will be difficult not only because it strikes at the very heart of global economic stability, but also because it occurs at a time when global economies are under enormous stress. Yet with the growing interest in cryptocurrencies and central bank digital currencies, among others, it is clear that the monetary landscape is changing.

Before the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) announcement banning financial institutions from dealing with local cryptocurrency exchanges and ordering the closure of cryptocurrency traders’ accounts, cryptocurrency startups were acting as exchanges local, helping to facilitate transactions between users. Nigeria has recorded crypto transactions worth $566 million in five years. The rather abrupt shake-up of the CBN has thrown cryptocurrency startups, traders and investors into a state of frenzied readjustment.

A selection of highly competent speakers will therefore be present to discuss best practices in alternative currencies. These include Rotimi Ogunyemi – ICT Lawyer and Chairman of the NBA-SBL ICT Committee. Other distinguished panelists include: Ruth Iselema – co-founder, Bitmama, Victor Ndukauba – DMD, Afrinvest, Michael Ugwu – founder, Freeme digital, Carmelle Cadet – CEO, EMTec, Akin Sawyer – managing partner, Feleman (moderator)
