Aiyuk details reasons why he decided to sign contract extension with 49ers originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
It took several months, but the 49ers finally signed Brandon Aiyuk to a lucrative contract extension last month.
After the two parties reached an agreement, many reports surfaced about how the case was ultimately settled, including that San Francisco gave Aiyuk an ultimatum before signing afterwards.
On Tuesday, Aiyuk himself explained his motivations for signing an extension.
“I’m just with my people, the people I know, the people I’ve been around for the last four years,” Aiyuk said of his teammate. Deebo SamuelThe new podcast from “Cleats and Convos”.
“The people I’ve seen have kids, they’ve been able to see their kids grow up a little bit, they’ve been able to see me have kids, see my kids grow up a little bit,” Aiyuk continued. “So it’s just about staying with family.”
Aiyuk then added that the 49ers organization felt like home to him.
Asked if he played a role in Aiyuk’s contract negotiations, Samuel said he largely stayed out of it.
“I just told him, ‘In the end, it’s going to be the way you want it to be,’” Samuel said. “I didn’t intend to pursue it further because I didn’t want to be bothered by anyone.”
In 2022, Samuel had already gone through a similar period of hesitation before signing a three-year extension. Perhaps the success of his own negotiations led him to have confidence “that it was going to work out” with Aiyuk, which he said. had maintained since training camp.
Ultimately, Aiyuk’s statement shows the importance of San Francisco’s camaraderie off the field — in addition to their consistent success in real games.
