AC Milan prepares an offer for the Real Madrid star: the announced price, a mistake for Los Blancos?

New speculation surrounds the Real Madrid team. Central Defense reports that AC Milan are targeting Andriy Lunin for a possible summer transfer. This interest comes from the fact that the Italian giants have difficulty renewing Mike Maignan’s contract.

AC Milan targets Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin

They therefore selected the Ukraine international as their main backup plan. Lunin signed a contract extension keeping him at the position Santiago Bernabéu until 2030. Despite everything, the Rossoneri are monitoring him closely while discussions with their current French goalkeeper remain at a standstill.

Milan would have given Maignan a final “take it or leave it” offer of €7 million per season. He still remains hesitant on these terms. This hold-up forces the club to immediately look for new options.

In the event of Maignan’s departure, the Milanese leaders intends to make an offer between 10 and 15 million euros for Lunin. They believe that this price makes sense for a goalkeeper with his background and European experience.

Real Madrid maintains a strict policy regarding winter transfers. The club hierarchy has ruled out any sales during the next windowapart Endrick’s loan to Lyon. So the club won’t even talk about a goalkeeper deal until the end of the season.

Lunin turned down offers from Turkish clubs last summer fight for his place. However, starting every week at the San Siro could change his mind. The 26-year-old is currently Thibaut Courtois’ replacement. Moving permanently in 2026 would give him the consistent minutes he’s looking for in his prime years. Manchester United also wanted to sign Lunin this summer. There will therefore be no shortage of suitors.

Why should Real Madrid demand more or retain Lunín?

Lunin showed what he could do by replacing the injured Courtois. He has proven that he has the reflexes and composure necessary for high-level football. The Ukrainian has bailed out Real Madrid on multiple occasions, including in huge Champions League knockout matches. These performances caused its value to skyrocket throughout Europe.

The announced price of 10 to 15 million euros seems far too low. Lunin was essentially the backbone of a Champions League-winning defense for most of the 2023/24 season. Los Blancos should really ask for a lot more if they decide to sell. Otherwise, they should work to keep him as the best possible safety net in case Courtois gets injured again.

Selling it for such a small sum would be a huge headache. It’s almost impossible to find another backup this good for this kind of money in today’s market. Keeping a goalkeeper who wants to be number one is not easy, but Xabi Alonso values the depth of the team above all.

Real Madrid must weigh the money with the risk on the pitch. It would be a strategic error to let a talent like Lunin leave for cheap. Madrid should keep their man unless Milan come back with a much better offer. Having two world-class goalkeepers brings a level of stability that money rarely buys.
