Aaron Boone subject to ‘bad ejection’ by Wendelstedt after MLB review

Major League Baseball reportedly disagrees with umpire Hunter Wendelstedt’s decision to eject New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone from his team’s 2-0 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Monday .

Andy Martino SNY reported Wednesday that the league considered it a “bad ejection.”

Boone was ejected in the very first round of the contest following an earlier warning. Still, the ejection turned heads as he was silent as a fan appeared to yell at Wendelstedt:

This report comes after Boone appeared on Jomboy Media Talking Yankees podcast and said, “I think the league is upset about this.” He also said he had “no idea” how the referee’s error could be corrected.

As Martino explained, the league considering this a “bad ejection” will impact Wendelstedt’s ability to possibly be promoted to team manager or land high-level officiating roles in prestigious places such as the playoffs or the All-Star Game.

MLB evaluates umpires’ “game management” abilities throughout the season, which then comes into play during postseason assignments that come with additional pay.

“Apparently what he said was there was a fan right above the dugout,” Wendelstedt said after the game. Bryan Hoch from MLB.com.

“This is not my first sending off. In my entire career I have never sent off a player or manager for something a fan said. I understand this will be part of a story or something like that’s because that’s what Aaron said “I heard something coming from the other end of the dugout, it had nothing to do with his zone, but it’s the Yankees manager. , so he was the one who had to leave. “

The referee too said he quickly sent Boone out even though he wasn’t sure if it was the manager who said anything because he didn’t want to send out a player since “that’s what the fans pay to see”.

For his part, Boone told reporters the whole ordeal was “not good” and “embarrassing.” He also said he would address the league.

It was a lousy game for the Yankees, even aside from the ejection, as they managed no runs and only three hits against an Oakland team that sits in fourth place in the American League West and who should not compete this season.

To New York’s credit, they bounced back with a 4-3 win over the same team on Tuesday with Boone back in the dugout.
