LIV Golf Tour: former PGA Tour cadet on the OWGR problem? “Be mad at your agent”

Ancient PGA Tour caddy John Wood – who most recently carried the bag for Matt Kuchar – denounced the “closed store” of the LIV Golf Invitational Series in a debate on world ranking points.

Wood, who also looped for Mark Calcavecchia, Hunter Mahan and Kevin Sutherland before going behind the scenes as a reporter, decided to tackle the hot topic this week.

In case you didn’t know, the LIV Golf Tour is without official World Golf Ranking accreditation.

A few 50 players who participated in LIV Golf events have writing to Peter Dawson, the president of the governing body, pleading their case for the points standings as the strength of the platoons on the brand new circuit grew stronger and stronger over the course of five events.

What will the OWGR’s final decision be regarding LIV golf tournaments?

Justin Thomas had thoughts about this topic. Naturally, JT – who recently joined Shane Lowry hitting Bryson DeChambeau harder than that rope gallery – basically said the LIV players had made up their minds.

Now live with it.

Even Billy Horschel managed to come off the fence for once to give his thoughts on LIV Golf.

Rory McIlroy also offered what can only be described as his most measured response to the world ranking points conundrum ahead of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Matthew Fitzpatrick echoes his feelings.

Although McIlroy also decided to change the subject for a change and jumped to defense of his junior Harry Diamond, whom he described as an “easy target”.

But back to Wood, who said:

LIV GOLFERS want the right to participate in PGA TOUR events on their own terms. Will Liv open the doors to PGA Tour players at their events whenever they want? No, because there are only 48 guys. In response to world ranking points? You knew the deal. Be angry with your agent.

– John Wood (@Johnwould) September 29, 2022

He went further to explain:

There should be no points. How real the competition is when you show up and have already received millions of dollars. Is there pressure? If you’re allowed to pick Tour events, how real is your pressure versus a guy trying to keep his card? It’s an uneven playing field

– John Wood (@Johnwould) September 29, 2022

The battle over whether or not LIV will receive ranking points has been seen by some as more important than the current one antitrust lawsuitwhich was filed in August.

This week, the PGA Tour fought back by counterattack their rival.

Greg Norman, Managing Director of LIV Golf, expressed his frustration at LIV having not yet obtained world ranking points.

According to a report from Bob Harig of SI, Norman believes that LIVs are “played slowly.”
