The NHL Board of Governors is scheduled to meet in Seattle on Monday and Tuesday, and one of the main topics of conversation is expected to be the future of the Arizona Coyotes.
The ‘Yotes are in their second season playing at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona. It is the 4,600-seat home of the Arizona State University Sun Devils and is their temporary facility while they work to acquire land for a new full-size arena in the Valley.
And while PHNX Sports“Craig Morgan reported The Coyotes on Sunday are focusing on a parcel of land within the Phoenix city limits as a potential new arena site after their previous project in Tempe was rejected by a referendum in May, Daily faceoffFrank Seravalli said on Monday’s episode of Daily face-to-face live that the Board of Governors may be losing patience with the current situation in the desert.
Here is a brief excerpt from the conversation between Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Are we talking about a team that may be on the verge of figuring things out in Arizona, or do you think, perhaps, that some governors are running out of patience with all of this?
Frank Seravalli: Oh, I think there are definitely more than a handful of governors who have lost patience. You see a team playing in a 4,600 seat arena with no end in sight, that’s a loss of revenue, not a loss of revenue. I know people will say, “Oh, they exceeded their last full season revenue at (Desert Diamond Arena). » OK, well, that doesn’t matter. Five percent more of nothing is still nothing. In an overall plan, the NHL needs to get back to a point where all 32 teams are currently generating solid revenue, and the Coyotes are a significant exception. They would lead you to believe that they are about to create a new site for a new arena – I’m not convinced by that.
