The US Open starts tomorrow, which will be great because all the best golfers in the world will compete for our national championship on a legendary golf course.
But before things got underway at the Country Club of Brookline, there was some serious business to attend to as players were rightly asked for their thoughts on the LIV Golf/PGA Tour battle that is fracturing the sport and is easily one of the most important. stories in professional golf history.
Rory McIlroy had no problem talking about it at length during his press conference Tuesday morning. He was as usual, thoughtful, giving good answers from his heart..

Here’s a sample of what he said about why he defends the PGA Tour:
“It’s the right thing to do. The PGA Tour was created by people and Tour players who came before us, like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer. They created something and worked hard for something, and I hate to see all the players who came before us and all the hard work they put in amounted to nothing.
You see, it wasn’t that difficult.
Jon Rahm, reigning US Open champion and world No. 2 player, also calmly shared his thoughts on the situationsaying:
“I feel like the PGA Tour has done an incredible job of giving us the best platform to perform. I see the appeal that other people see in the LIV Golf. I see some of the points or arguments – I’ll say this delicately – that they can make as to why they prefer it. To be honest, part of the format (LIV) doesn’t really appeal to me. Shotgun three days for me, it’s not a golf tournament, no cut. It’s so simple. I want to play against the best in the world in a format that has been around for hundreds of years. That’s what I want to see.
See, it wasn’t that difficult either.
And then there was Brooks Koepka, who didn’t like the press asking questions on this important and current subject?. He has a press conference this week and he was asked a few questions about it and apparently it was too much for him.
He attacked a journalist, saying:
“I don’t understand. I’m trying to focus on the US Open, man. I legit don’t understand. I’m tired of the conversations. I’m tired of all this. Like I said, you throw all a dark cloud over the US Open. I think it sucks. I actually feel bad for them for once because it’s a half-hearted situation. We’re here to play and you’re talking about an event that happened last week.
Imagine asking about something that happened…last week!? How dare these journalists!?
Koepka, whose brother attended the LIV Golf event last week in London, also said this, which made no sense:
“You can’t drive a car while looking in the rearview mirror, can you? »
Um yes. Yes you can.
“You all are casting a dark cloud over the US Open, and I think it sucks.”

Koepka is supposed to be that tough guy who had no problem creating distractions by intimidating Bryson DeChambeau. But now he can’t answer a few questions in a brief press conference and has to speak contemptuously to journalists who just ask questions that everyone answers?
Hell, even Phil Mickelson stood in front of the media on Monday and somehow i answered a lot of questions during his approximately 20-minute press conference.
Poor Brooks Koepka. I just hope he’s okay and still able to start when things start tomorrow.
Yesterday must have been very hard for him.
Poor man.
