The Devils will host their annual Pride Night on Thursday, December 21, 2023, when they take on the Edmonton Oilers for a 7:30 p.m. contest at the Prudential Center. The second of the club Hockey is for everyone The season’s game will feature custom jerseys, honorees and in-game features to reflect the Devils’ long-standing commitment to pride, diversity and inclusion.
The Devils’ Pride Night jerseys were custom designed by a local artist, Catherine Kennedy, of Kearny, New Jersey. Inspired by traditional collage art, Kennedy worked in an abstract style to create the jersey’s crest, which represents ‘coming out’ within the LGBTQIA+ community. In his words:
“I like to work in the abstract. This design is meant to represent coming out, this notion of breaking the barrier to be able to live freely and openly. I moved away from using an easily identifiable border, as well as separating circle groups from larger groups/logos, to promote the idea of breaking the barrier. I layered the groups of circles and used the colors of the pride flag to continue to symbolize hope and an interconnected community. These themed evenings allow people who are part of their respective communities to know that they are seen, heard and welcome. It’s a huge honor to be a part of Devils’ Pride Night, and I hope I’ve created something that helps others feel accepted and appreciated.
The personalized jerseys worn during the players’ arrival will be auctioned between December 21 and 28 with the proceeds benefiting Hyacinth. Fans will be able to bid on newjerseydevils.com/auction.
Fans can visit the Newark Winter Village at Mulberry Commons Park with Devils alumni, carnival games and food trucks before the game. Heated igloos are also available to rent for one-hour blocks. Reservations for the heated igloos can be found online at newarkwintervillage.com.
