The soundtrack of NBA a generation ago made its way to the Tokyo Olympics.

“Roundball Rock” – the iconic score composed by John Tesh around thirty years ago – is used again by BNC at the Tokyo Games, as the theme music for men’s and women’s basketball during their broadcasts.

Tesh’s music was the theme for the coverage of “NBA on NBC” from 1990 to 2002, covering part of Tesh’s career. Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and many others. The music began to be used again during Olympic basketball broadcasts on NBC networks over the weekend.

Tesh once said that he got the idea for the theme while traveling in Europe, but did not have a piano available to him during the trip. He called his personal answering machine and sang the theme idea into the phone, leaving the message to himself.

It was even parodied on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in 2013 in a sketch featuring, among others, Jason Sudeikis – who now stars in “Ted Lasso”.
