Cameron Smith leaves press conference after being faced with a series of questions about LIV Golf

Cameron Smith has walked out of a press conference after a flurry of questions about his LIV Golf status were thrown at him.

The Saudi-backed golf league was unsurprisingly the Australian’s main topic of conversation at the PGA Tour’s St Jude Championship.

A report from British Telegraph had revealed that the Australian had signed a $140 million deal to join the league just hours earlier.

Meanwhile, fellow Australian Cameron Percy had let it slip that Smith and fellow Australian Marc Leishman had agreed to the LIV contract while speaking to RSN radio.

As such, journalists didn’t care much about talking about the FedExCup.

Smith said, “You know, my goal here is to win the FedExCup Playoffs. That’s all I’m here for.

He also took the opportunity to sneakily poke around Cameron Percy’s supposed oily mouth.

He added: “If there is anything I have to say regarding the PGA Tour or LIV, it will come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy.

“I am a man of my word and whenever you need to know something, I will say it.”

Smith has confirmed he intends to play in the President’s Cup, despite the UK Telegraph’s report claiming he will then be with LIV Golf.

Pressed further to comment on the report, Smith simply responded: “I have no comment to make on that.” »

The Australian was again pressed on the LIV Golf situation, giving a similar response before saying “thank you” and interrupting the press conference, according to FoxSports Australia.

Smith’s responses mirrored those at another awkward press conference last month after his British Open victory.

The Australian was again asked about his links to the LIV Golf Tour, despite having achieved a major victory.

Asked about his future, he replied: “I just won the British Open and you’re asking me about it? I think it’s pretty – not that good.

When asked for a response, the Australian seemingly avoided the question.

He replied, “I don’t know, buddy. My team around me worries about all that, I’m here to win golf tournaments.

While this was not an admission that he was jumping ship, it was not a denial, which gave rise to rumors.

LIV Golf has signed Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, however, Smith would flag the highest-profile signing given he is the current world number two.
