With the Chicago Street Race taking place next year, this won’t be the first time NASCAR has raced on the streets of Chicago. Previously, iRacing hosted a simulation racing event based on the upcoming Chicago Street Course.

America’s Favorite Video Today

The race featured real drivers like Bubba Wallace. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin and many others. The event was not without glaring problems. We saw several accidents that were going to create a pileup since there was nowhere to go on the track.

According to a Tweetersaid Bubba Wallace, “The only thing that stood out from the iRacing thing was that one car veered off course and kind of blocked the track and they all piled up. So we need to have an escape route. I’m sure all of this is taken into consideration.“

NASCAR recently confirmed the street race will take place on July 1 and 2, 2023. By signing a 3-year agreement with the city, we will be able to see the race in 2023, 2024 and 2025. But by removing the historic oval circuits and replacing them with the street races street, this is something that doesn’t sit well with the fan base. Either way, the street circuit is now underway and we can only wait to see if the racing is good in an urban location like Chicago.

According to the NASCAR press releaseBen Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing development, said: “Monumental day in the history of our sport in NASCAR.” It’s the first-ever street race that also coincides with the sport’s 75th anniversary in 2023. The circuit will include portions of Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive on its 2.2-mile, 12-turn layout. It will also feature a start and finish line along South Columbus Drive, with the famous Buckingham Fountain as a backdrop.

The route will include portions of Grant Park and even pass by the iconic Soldier Field. Which was home to the only other NASCAR Cup Series race held in downtown Chicago in 1956.
