Comedian Bill Burr has attracted much controversy over the years for his jokes on various topics, including women’s rights, feminism, and gender equality. However, backlash against his jokes didn’t stop the veteran comedian from addressing gender equality within the WNBA in his recent comedy special. In fact, Burr held feminists and women’s rights activists responsible for the WNBA’s failure to compete with the NBA in terms of equal pay for its athletes.

America’s Favorite Video Today

The issue of gender equality has long been a hot topic in American sports. Various female athletes, such as soccer star Megan Rapinoe, have voiced their disagreement regarding the large pay disparity between men’s and women’s sports. On the other hand, the counterargument often made is that salaries in women’s sports are low due to the stark difference in revenue generated by female athletes.

Meanwhile, Burr presented his own perspective on the whole issue.

Bill Burr blames feminists for wage gap in women’s sports

Comedian Bill Burr provided a unique reason why WNBA players don’t get exorbitant contracts like NBA players. It turns out the 54-year-old thinks it’s the fault of feminists and women’s rights advocates.

Burr said, “Look at the WNBA. It’s a league subsidized by men. We gave you a league. None of you came. Where are all the feminists? This place should be full of feminists. Neither of you went to the games. None of you.”

He concluded his argument by saying: “You all failed them. Neither me nor the men. Women have failed in the WNBA.

New investment in the WNBA

In 2018, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the WNBA was losing money every year. In fact, the league has been losing an average of $10 million every year for some time now.

However, things have seemingly started to change for the women’s premier basketball league. Earlier this year, the league announced a whopping $75 million in funding from a group of investors.

American women’s basketball players have historically played overseas due to insufficient salaries at home and the opportunity to earn more money playing overseas during the WNBA offseason. However, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has promised that the league is heading toward a brighter future.
