Shohei Ohtani is reportedly set to make his free agent decision, and it appears the new manager of the Los Angeles Angels may have inside information about the situation.
Ron Washington He was asked Monday if he had been following the Ohtani draw in recent weeks. The 71-year-old said he was reluctant to say too much because he didn’t want to “let anything out of the bag.”
Perhaps it was simply Washington’s way of avoiding the subject. However, he seemed to indicate that he knew something about the situation that he did not want to share with the public. It’s possible this means the Angels are close to a deal with Ohtani or they’re out of the auction. Or it might mean nothing at all.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been considered the favorites to land Ohtani for some time. The Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays would also be in the game, alongside the Angels.
According to a recent report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the bidding for Ohtani has already reached massive numbers. With the MLB Winter Meetings taking place this week, it’s possible Ohtani is close to signing with a team.
