If you thought Kyle Busch would cry out for a change in the controversial topic NASCAR Cup Series playoff system, you would be completely wrong.
Right now, the playoff format is one of the hottest topics in sports, with a ton of analysts and fans calling for adjustments.

It’s like everyone except the three-time champion Joey Logano hates the current way of choosing a champion – three stages of three races each, followed by a championship race finale.
You’d think Busch would be among the haters – after all, the two-time Cup Series champion hasn’t appeared in the playoffs since 2023. He failed to make it again this year and is on the outside looking in as we advance to the Round of 16 next weekend.

The 40-year-old superstar has a different and somewhat surprising perspective, explaining: “It doesn’t matter what system it is. Everybody wants to make a big deal out of what it is. If you know what it’s about, exploit it the way you need to exploit it yourself to make a championship. And that’s it.”
The Richard Childress Racing star added: “I mean, I haven’t been to the playoffs in a few years, so it would be nice to get back to the playoffs and have a chance to race for something of this nature.
“But no matter what, everyone knows what’s going on, and you just have to find your best path through the system in order to bring home a championship.”
We’re six years away from Busch’s last Cup Series title, but whether he likes it or not, it looks like changes are coming to the playoff format soon.
Playoff system could change soon
NASCAR’s playoff committee is expected to meet this week to discuss potential changes, with Mike Forde revealing: “I think the plan for this meeting is to discuss the shortlist, potential formats and get input from the playoff committee on that.”
“We’ll go through that process and hopefully determine an even shorter list, narrow it down to a final format. NASCAR will decide whether to move forward and we could see something as early as 2026.”
