Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton raised eyebrows this week when he was heard saying in the Lakers locker room that his team was “trying to make me Clint Capela.”
These words actually came back to Capela.

The Houston Rockets center took a playful shot at Ayton Thursday night via his Instagram Story. Sharing an ESPN article featuring Ayton’s comments, Capela wrote, “You had 2 of the best floor generals in the game, buddy Lockinnn” and included two crying-laughing emojis.

Capela’s comments were posted around the time the Lakers’ game against the Suns was ending. Los Angeles lost a heartbreaker, 113-110, as Phoenix’s Royce O’Neale scored a 3-pointer in the final seconds. Ayton struggled a lot in the competition.
After saying he was “not a Clint Capela”, after the Lakers’ previous game, Ayton came out and scored just 2 points on 1-for-3 shooting. He only added 4 rebounds in his 23 minutes.

This performance, which coincides with the Lakers’ third consecutive loss, is unlikely to calm the conversation around the former No. 1 overall pick.
