In the first edition of “Triple Threat,” Cameron Cox, Lina Washington and Luke Lyddon give their perspectives on 3 of the Valley’s biggest stories.
PHOENIX — The 12Sports The team is launching a new segment, special to 12News.com, called “Triple Threat.”
Each week, the 12Sports team, Cameron Cox, Lina Washington and Luke Lyddon, will give their take on three of the Valley’s hottest sports topics.
The first story this week concerns the Arizona Cardinals, who will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers on Sunday. Cam, Lina and Luke focus specifically on Kyler Murray, who has been having issues since returning from a torn ACL. In the first segment (0:00-6:06), the team discusses whether or not fans should be worried about their franchise quarterback, especially since he’s on the point to face a tough Steeler defense.
In the second segment (6:07-11:08), Cam, Lina and Luke turn their attention to the Suns who seem to be slowly finding their footing with an 11-7 record. However, health remains the number one issue for Phoenix. The 12Sports team explains how far they think the Suns can go if the Big Three (Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal) continue to not play together, if a playoff run is even feasible and what the Suns need to prove to the fans to do so. show that they can really challenge for a championship.
In the last segment (11:09-16:01), the 12Sports team changes the subject to talk about one of the NHL’s biggest surprises, the Arizona Coyotes! After winning just 28 games last season, the Coyotes took the plunge and won 11 of their first 22 games to start the 2023 season. Cam, Lina and Luke discuss how much of a surprise this jump really is, if a push in the playoffs is out of the question and what realistic expectations should be.

Sports in Arizona
The city of Phoenix is home to five major professional sports league teams; The NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, NBA’s Phoenix Suns, WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks and NHL’s Arizona Coyotes.
The Cardinals have made State Farm Stadium in Glendale their home field, and the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix is home to both the Suns and Mercury. The Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League also play at Footprint. Phoenix has a soccer team with Phoenix Rising FC of the USL.
The Valley hosts several major sporting events each year, including the Fiesta Bowl and college football’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl; the PGA Tour’s busiest event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open; NASCAR events every spring and fall; and Cactus League spring training.
