It’s been almost a year since Diego Schwartzman stepped away from professional tennis, and he doesn’t look back with any regrets.
Speaking to Tennishead, Schwartzman explained that what he misses most is not the competition or the travel, but something much simpler: access to the court.

“Maybe they continue, walk in the competition. You know, that’s the only thing I miss, because there are too many things behind the scenes that no one knows and no one sees.”
The day-to-day life of a professional gamer isn’t something Schwartzman remembers fondly. Long hours and constant travel have given way to a more sedentary routine.
“The number of hours you have to train, take care of your body and many other things I don’t miss. It’s too many hours a day,” he said.
Schwartzman is expected to return to tennis as part of INTENNSE’s Team Ownership Group, with the league starting June 5. You can find more information here.

Diego Schwartzman settles into his new tennis career
In addition to his role with INTENNSE this summer, Schwartzman has also been active behind the scenes at some major tennis events.
He took on a behind-the-scenes role at the Australian Open and even took to the practice courts with Carlos Alcaraz ahead of his final against Novak Djokovic.
Reflecting on his new positions in the sport, he said: “It’s fun for me. You know, behind the scenes, knowing how tennis is doing.”
βThe schedule, the prize money, different things are going to change maybe in the next few years, and it’s good to be behind the scenes, you know, trying to help.β
