San Diego Padres fans were asked how they would rate San Diego’s offseason on a Investigating Padres reactions on January 13. Since that Gaslamp Ball poll, San Diego has made several additions to the list, but none of those additions have made headlines. Instead, Padres president of baseball operations and general manager AJ Preller added one-year major league contracts and several minor league contracts with invitations to spring training to the list.
Pessimists will say Preller is dumpster diving and hoping to find someone salvageable, especially among the pitchers. Optimists will say that Preller has an eye for talent and that the combination of his abilities with the tutelage of pitching coach Ruben Niebla is bound to deliver at least one success for the group. For faithful brothers who find themselves between the two groups, the wait-and-see attitude allows them to bide their time before passing judgment.
Player additions at the position were viewed largely the same way. Miguel Andujar was widely considered a good signing, but questions arise over his role in defense. Big-name addition Nick Castellanos, who was signed for the major league minimum after being released by the Philadelphia Phillies, received a mixed reception due to clubhouse concerns and declining numbers. Ty France, who recently signed a minor league contract, is known for his defense, but hasn’t had much success at the plate.
Perhaps the biggest move of the offseason came on Monday when the Padres announced a multi-year extension for Preller to remain with the team past the 2026 season. Like the players, this move will be and has been discussed both positively and negatively among fans, but it would appear from their comments that the players are fully supportive of Preller and what he has accomplished thus far in San Diego.

That said, this week’s Padres Reacts survey wants to know if your opinion on the offseason has changed with the various moves that have taken place since the previous poll. The results will be revealed later this week.
