With the UConn women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma Continually leading the program to new successes, especially this season with a 26-0 record, there is no denying the amount of professional talent he has coached during his tenure. Like the The UConn women’s basketball team continues to dominate, Auriemma would be asked to name an all-time Huskies team.

Auriemma was on “Hoops HQ” with Andy Katz and Seth Davis, asked about a Huskies dream team, saying how Iit’s “difficult” to get there. The first three players he would name are Sue Bird, Diana TaurasiAnd Tina Charlesexplaining the choices to each player.

“Man, that’s a tough question, because we’ve had so many great players,” Auriemma said. “If you look at it as, you know, Sue Bird is the greatest point guard, maybe in the history of basketball, college basketball, professional basketball, I don’t care. And that Taurasi is maybe, however you want to describe her. I think Tina Charles is probably the best rebounder, the best, the most energetic kid we’ve had there. And they played on the Olympic teams together.”

As it remains to be seen whether UConn women’s basketball star Sarah Strong joins the ranks as the Huskies turn to big-name WNBA players, there’s no denying there are big shoes to fill, especially when looking at Auriemma’s dream team. To round out the starting lineup, Auriemma would choose Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore to round out the list.

“Stewie (Stewart), being Stewie, fits in with everyone and is uncontrollable and is, you know, at this level, a playmaker,” Auriemma said. “The other one, it probably goes to Maya Moore. And it’s funny, because I coached that team to the Olympics. So yeah, if someone said pick a team, those are the five I would come up with.”

Regardless, the five players Auriemma named, Bird, Taurasi, Charles, Stewart and Moore, all had a huge impact on the program and later the WNBA. Today, Auriemma continues to develop professional talent.
