Scamurra is the daughter of a former Capitals defenseman Peter Scamurawho played for the team from 1975 to 1980.
“There’s so much history there,” Hayley Scamura said. “That’s also how he and my mom met when he was playing for the Capitals. So, I think being able to go to where he started his professional career and being able to continue mine and grow the women’s game in the same area is pretty cool.”
Sunday’s game was a success in Washington, setting a new record for American women’s hockey with 17,288 spectators.
The Sirens also represented the local NHL team, sporting Capitals jerseys upon arrival at the arena.
