Why isn’t Angel Reese in Unrivaled?

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese dominated Unrivaled in its first season in 2025.

The WNBA star was among the initial group of 36 players to join the Miami-based 3-on-3 league, co-founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. During the first year, Reese won a championship with Rose BC and I brought home Defensive Player of the Year honors. She also made Unrivaled history with the first 20-20 match in the league. Reese scored 20 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a February 21, 2025 game against the Lunar Owls.

The second season of Unrivaled began on January 5, with more teams, tighter competition and a bigger prize pool. The 3v3 league expanded from six to eight teams and added a development pool, increasing the number of roster spots from 36 to 54. Additionally, Unrivaled added a $50,000 free throw challenge to his player’s money pool.

Despite growing the league and leading his team to a title last season, Reese doesn’t star in Unrivaled during the second year. It’s not immediately clear why the Sky forward decided to forgo the Unrivaled season. However, she finished her second season in the WNBA nursing a back injury and a Half-match suspension on September 7 for “detrimental to the team” statements after expressing his frustrations with the franchise. After the season, Reese walked the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in October and attended a Team USA Senior Training Camp in December, but has otherwise been fairly quiet.

“That was the goal of this offseason” Reese tweeted on November 3. “I quietly mind my own business so everyone doesn’t mind mine.”

Ahead of her third season in the WNBA and amid ongoing negotiations with the CBA, Chicago forward confirmed his return to the franchisetelling the media in December: “I’m under contract, so yes, I intend to come back to Sky.”

“It’s important to really be involved…especially for myself and my class going forward,” Reese added of the WNBA CBA negotiations. “I think everyone is very intentional about what we want. … So I’m preparing for a season like everyone else’s, but we have to come to a negotiation. It’s really important for us to come to a common ground that we can all agree on. Everything is fair and everyone benefits.”

Reese enters the third year of her rookie contract next season, which she signed after being drafted seventh overall by the Sky in April 2024.
