One phone call changed everything. One of the best basketball players of all time just found out she was going into the Hall of Fame, and she couldn’t help but break down. Not because of trophies or records, but because she knew that she belonged to the greats who inspired her.

Candace Parker is the newest member of the Class of 2026 at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Her agent told her she was eligible. Parker explained how emotional the news was for her.

“Zach Miller, my agent, hit me up and kind of told me when they were going to make the announcement. And so that was kind of first on the radar. I found out that the other members eligible for the Hall of Fame for 2026, Elena Delle Donne, Blake Griffin, Jamal Crawford, Bruce Pearl, Joe Johnson, Kelvin Sampson and the ’96 United States women’s national basketball team, are some of the other nominees for the first time. And so to be in a class with people that I’ve really measured my game against and gone through hardships alongside me I have so much connection with so many people in this class that I got emotional, I didn’t think I would,” Candace Parker said.

When you think about what Parker did, his tears make sense. She was the No. 1 overall selection in 2008 and won WNBA championships with three different teams, something no one else has done. She was named All-Star seven times, MVP twice, and Finals MVP. Parker feels like her entire career has been validated now that she’s being honored by legends like Elena Delle Donne and Blake Griffin. Eventually, everything she gave up for basketball pays off.

For Parker, the most important thing about his nomination was its historical significance.

“I don’t think you ever wanted to wear an orange jacket. Like that’s not your whole goal. But as you get older you realize what comes with that and all the people you idolize…I’ve given so much to the game and I have it. And so it’s a special club,” Parker mused.

Parker, who will turn 40 in 2026, said it seemed odd to be honored after retiring in 2024 after a legendary career that included back-to-back national championship victories in Tennessee in 2007 and 2008.

The Hall of Fame doesn’t just honor statistics. It honors the people who changed the sport for good. John L. Doleva, president of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, said, “This year’s ballot recognizes those whose legacies continue to shape the way the game is played, coached and celebrated. » On April 4, during the Final Four Weekend, the class of 2026 will be announced. This will show how much these athletes have changed sport around the world.

Earlier this year, Parker’s LA Sparks and Chicago Sky jerseys were retired.

Parker served as analyst for NBA on TNT since 2018. She made history by becoming the first female color commentator. She also made history by being the only female analyst for Amazon Prime among NBA stars like Wade and Nowitzki. She showed that women can talk about men’s games. Parker will enter the Hall of Fame in his 40s.

Parker has been acting for over a decade. In the 410 games she has played, she has a field goal percentage of 47.9% and a free throw success rate of 76.7%. In 2008, she became the first player to win both the WNBA Rookie of the Year and MVP awards. She is also the first woman to dunk in a WNBA game. Parker led the Los Angeles Sparks, Chicago Sky and Las Vegas Aces to win the WNBA championship. She is the first and only player to lead three different franchises to the WNBA championship. In college, she won the national championship for Tennessee in 2007 and 2008. Both years she was named Final Four MVP.

Parker’s journey from WNBA champion to respected NBA voice shows that anyone can be a great basketball analyst.
