Manchester City 1 Brighton 1: City player ratings as Pep Guardiola’s side draw again

Manchester City 1 (Erling Haaland 41′ (P))

Brighton 1 Kaoru Mitoma (60′)

Here are City’s player ratings as Manchester City drew 1 against Brighton at the Etihad Stadium last night. Erling Haaland converted a penalty in the 41st minute to give City the lead in the first half. Haaland scored his 150th goal for Manchester City, which was a special moment for Manchester City’s number nine. Unfortunately, Haaland’s penalty was canceled out by Kaoru Mitoma’s goal in the 60th minute, which gave both teams a point.

Pep Guardiola’s side had their chances to take all three points tonight, but it was not to be. City weren’t at their best, but they will be frustrated that their wastefulness in front of goal cost them again after their draws against Sunderland and Chelsea. The failures of Bernardo Silva, Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki during the second half proved more than costly.

Here are City’s player ratings in Manchester City’s third straight draw, which could see them fall further behind Arsenal, who could move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League if they beat Liverpool at the Emirates.

City Player Ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma-7/10: Made several good saves and did his job well in goal.

Mathéus Nunes-6.5/10: He posed a major attacking threat for City early in the game, but he lacked legs. He recently put in a ton of work for his team and seemed to run out of steam before being removed.

Abdukodir Khusanov-7.5/10: His pace was strong throughout the evening and I thought he played well.

Max Alleyne-7.5/10: A very impressive performance from Alleyne. He didn’t look out of place and that’s to his credit. Manchester City appear to have found a player in Alleyne.

Nathan Ake-6/10: Did his job at left back as Brighton targeted him on several occasions.

Nico-6/10: Did his job but his performance seemed below his usual performance.

Bernardo Silva-6/10: The Manchester City captain worked hard but his failure early in the second half proved extremely costly.

Tijjani Reijnders-5.5/10: The Dutch internationals had their chances but did not make the impact he would have liked.

Phil Foden-5/10: A tired performance from Foden and he looks in desperate need of a rest. He couldn’t get into the game at all.

Jeremy Doku-7/10: A bright Doku screen. He was arguably Manchester City’s most dangerous attacking player and he never stopped trying to force his way through the Brighton defense.

Erling Haaland-6.5/10: Haaland converted his penalty with ease and he was involved throughout the match. His failure in the closing stages of the match proved costly and he will blame himself for missing such an easy opportunity.

Substitutes

Rodri-6/10: He replaced Nico but didn’t have the influence he would have liked on the game.

Rayan Cherki-6.5/10: Cherki made an impact off the bench. He should have had an assist, but Haaland missed a golden opportunity and Cherki missed a great chance to win the game in the 87th minute.

Nico O’Reilly-6/10: A solid performance coming off the bench from O’Reilly.

Rico Lewis: 6/10: Lewis had some nice touches and perhaps could have gone on earlier.
