Atletico Madrid will hope to be busy this month as they look to improve Diego Simeone’s side for the second half of the season. A new defender is being sought, but for someone to be brought in, someone might have to leave first – and that someone might be Giacomo Raspadori.
Having only joined Napoli this summer, Raspadori has struggled to make his name at Atleti. In total he has made 14 appearances in all competitions, but only a handful have been since the start. Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth and Antoine Griezmann are well ahead of him in the pecking order, and with the World Cup looming this summer, he is keen to play regularly to secure a place in the Italian team – if they qualify via the play-offs.

This led to Raspadori being associated with estrangement. Concretely, the Roma have expressed their interest in its services and in recent days, an agreement was reached for him to join them on an initial loan.

However, AS Journal have now reported that Raspadori has doubts about leaving Atleti. The 25-year-old is happy at RiyadhAir Metropolitano despite his lack of minutes, which is why he is not convinced of a mid-season return to Italy.
Raspadori’s departure would leave Atleti in a difficult situation
It’s worth noting that Atleti’s announced deal with Roma would include an obligation to buy if Raspadori were to fulfill a number of targets, but crucially, that money would only arrive this summer. Los Colchoneros would have to find a replacement if he leaves, but without additional funds to do so, there’s a good chance they’ll decide to end any chance of a deal being done this month – especially if the player’s doubts were to persist.
