Texas A&M Head coach Mike Elko has a good weekend, attracting four players from the transfer portal, including Tulsa’s standout linebacker Ray ConeyColorado security Tawfiq Gardenformer Texas A&M commit and LSU guard Coen Echols, and now, former Fresno State tight end Richie Anderson III, joining UTSA transfer tight end Houston Thomas.
After losing Nate Boerkircher and Amari Niblack to the 2026 NFL Draft, coupled with Theo Melin Öhrström entering the transfer portalElko and new tight ends coach Derek Shay focused on adding at least two new tight ends from the portal, achieving that goal in the first three days.

Thomas, a College Station native, was almost a sure thing, while Anderson, who possesses similar size and receiving ability, has two years of eligibility remaining. After it was confirmed that starting quarterback Marcel Reed would return to the lineup next season, giving the redshirt junior bigger targets in the passing game and adding more size in run blocking were key to helping Reed reach his full potential.
During his final season with Fresno State, Anderson had 31 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns, and earned solid Pro Football Focus grades in pass protection (67.2) and run blocking (62.4). The tight end position is a crucial part of new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins’ offense, which will resemble former OC Collin Klein’s scheme, likely adding new wrinkles in the passing game.
