Lismore’s reputation as a hotbed of elite sporting talent continues to grow.
Jordan Lampard will be part of the Young Socceroos squad that takes on Qatar in New Zealand today.
Former Socceroo commentator Craig Foster said it was a big achievement for a 17-year-old to make the under-20 team.
“Very young to reach your 20s under Paul Okon and now be able to gain some international experience,” he said.
“It just shows another step that he’s taking.
“It’s been a very difficult journey because they reach a certain threshold at a certain age and of course you have to go and play elsewhere.
“So it’s a huge commitment from Jordan, and the family of course.
“I think at one point they were traveling to Palm Beach five days a week.”
Foster said Lampard was now well placed to potentially push for senior representative honours.
“From the Joeys, which are the under-17s, there’s a very long way to go,” he said.
“But once you get to the under-20s and then the under-23s, the percentage of players who take the next leap becomes much greater.
“Because they are at a stage in their lives, where Jordan is now at an A-League club with the Brisbane Roar Youth, it means the platform is there for him to continue to be successful.”
