DiStefano also reportedly told the court that Diggs offered a financial settlement to resolve the matter with the alleged victim.
“As we speak, they are working to come to an agreement on this,” DiStefano said.
“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made against Stefon Diggs,” read a team statement Tuesday. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the relevant authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
An arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 23 against Diggs. If the Patriots advance to the NFL playoffs, the AFC Championship Game will take place on Sunday, January 25.
The judge in the case will reportedly consider a request to extend the arraignment date until March.
Diggs, 32, is in his 11th season in the NFL and his first with the Patriots after signed a three-year, $69 million contract to join the team in March. In 16 games this season, he has 82 receptions for 970 yards and four touchdowns.
