THE Yankees can now say they’ve added another veteran MVP to their roster – well, sort of.
The club has apparently agreed to a contract with the reigning Mexican League MVP and outfielder. Nick Torres. Although no deal has been confirmed by the club, Algodoneros Unión Laguna, Torres’ Mexican League team, bid farewell to their star in a social media post Saturday, wishing the 32-year-old well and “continue to grow and achieve one more dream” as a member of the Yankees.

Torres, a California native selected by the Padres in the fourth round of the 2014 draft, has not appeared in a MiLB-affiliated game since 2018.
The right-winger rose through the minor league ranks between 2014 and 2018, but never received a promotion to the major leagues. Working as a corner outfielder and first baseman in the Padres and Rangers systems, he played in 212 Double-A games and 71 Triple-A games, hitting a combined .267.
Torres joined the Mexican League in 2019 and in his most recent campaign he slashed a solid .347/.425/.730 with 27 home runs and 79 RBIs in 86 games for Unión Laguna.
Since 2021, he is hitting .343 with an OPS of 1.025 for the Mexican League club.
