American golfer Ryan McCormick had a tough time on the US Development Tour this year, so he decided to control his emotions by taping his mouth shut.
McCormick made a special move during this week’s tournament at Landings Golf and Athletic Club in Savannah, Georgia.
“I’ve had some not-so-fun times this year on the golf course. Mostly upset and angry,” McCormick said on the tour’s social media channels.
“So I thought I’d tried a lot of things, and I just thought I’d shut up. So I put duct tape over my mouth.”
Did it work?
Not judged on his score. After opening with a 1-over 73, he posted a 72 in the second round and missed the cut.
McCormick, who spent a year on the PGA Tour in 2024, said he has tried other methods to improve his game, such as reading books and talking to people.
But nothing seems to be working for the 33-year-old, who turned professional in 2014.

“I’m out of ideas and thought of the tape a few weeks ago,” McCormick said.
“So, unfortunately, that’s what happened today. I was hoping it would help me. I can’t say if it did or not.”
One of the reasons for this extraordinary decision was that McCormick said he did not want to create a negative experience for his playing partners.
“I’m going through a tough time, and this was my solution today,” he said.
