Brief thoughts

Casey has a detailed overview here.

I don’t have much, honestly. This is a “success” game for Purdue, and the Boilermakers need to succeed. Purdue should overwhelm the smaller Gophers in the paint, then punish them from the outside once the defense starts to collapse. It wouldn’t shock me if Fletcher Loyer leaves in this one; he doesn’t usually play two bad games in a row. I would like to see Braden and TKR work on the pick-and-roll, because for the first time in a long time it was completely shut down by Iowa State.

Everything Purdue does is based on Braden and TKR being the best P&R combo in college basketball. The Cyclones decided to focus on stopping TKR on the pick-and-roll and challenged Braden to beat them by scoring. Instead of scoring, Braden tried to beat Iowa State by passing to his role players, and we all saw what happened. I need to see the most insurmountable game in college basketball return to full capacity tonight.

Predictions

KenPom

Purdue: 79

Minnesota: 61

Drawn

Purdue: 87

Minnesota: 65

It’s a “wrong time, wrong place” situation for the Gophers. I guarantee Matt Painter had the Boilermakers’ full attention in practice this week. Fletch leaves early, the pick-and-roll dominates the game throughout and the Boilermakers cruise to victory in the second half.
