It was unfortunately announced this weekend that the former NASCAR driver Michael Annett died. He was only 39 years old.

During his NASCAR career, Annett made 436 combined starts. He was best known for his participation in the Xfinity Series, winning the NASCAR Racing Experience 300 at Daytona in 2019. Before achieving this victory, he spent a few years competing in the Cup Series.

Annett’s death was first announced by his former team, JR Motorsports. This led to a touching tribute from Brad Keselowski.

“I remember that day very well. Michael was a promising kid at the same time as me and he looked really good. In the end, life took us different paths and all of us who knew him and the talent he had are sad to see him go, but happy that he is no longer in pain,” Keselowski wrote on social media.

Later Friday evening, NASCAR released a statement on the tragic loss.

“NASCAR is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former NASCAR driver Michael Annett,” NASCAR said in a statement. “Michael was a respected competitor whose determination, professionalism and positive spirit were felt by everyone in the garage. Throughout his career, he represented our sport with integrity and the passion of a true racer. NASCAR extends its condolences to Michael’s family and his many friends.”

Tributes are pouring in.

Annett’s cause of death has not been announced at this time. All we know is that the NASCAR community is devastated by this loss.

“Michael was a key member of JRM from 2017 until his retirement in 2021 and played an important role in transforming us into the four-car organization we are today,” JR Motorsports wrote.

“Heartbroken. I’m going to miss you man. I love you Diesel Mike,” said NASCAR driver Noah Gragson.

“Very sad to lose someone who meant so much to me and my family,” added Sammy Smith of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

We are keeping Annett’s loved ones in our thoughts.
