Kelsey Mitchell was forced to carry a much heavier load than expected for the Indiana fever this last season. This was in the midst of a real injury crisis within the team, which saw no fewer than five players suffer season-ending injuries throughout the campaign. This included the fundamental superstar Caitlin Clarkwho was limited to just 13 games in her second WNBA season.
Mitchell stepped in as Fever struggled with injuries. She played in all 44 regular season games, averaging 20.2 career points on 45.6% shooting, 1.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.5 triples per game. His incredible campaign helped Mitchell finish fifth in the MVP race.

Mitchell literally played for the Fever until she couldn’t anymore. After playing in all eight playoff games, the three-time All-Star was forced to go out the do-or-die showdown of Game 5 against the The Aces of Las Vegas in the semi-finals due to what was later diagnosed as rhabdomyolysis. Mitchell’s muscles virtually stopped functioning after reaching maximum capacity.
Aside from being one of the best players in the WNBA, Mitchell is active when it comes to giving back. The 30-year-old is well aware that she is in a privileged position, which is why she does what she can to share her blessings with her community.

“I need all of you to help me make Christmas fun for families. Sharing is caring. If you can’t make it, you can still help,” she captioned her post, sharing several donation options for her charity campaign.
Mitchell shared a post from her foundation, the Kelzhoop Foundation, about its fifth annual toy drive. It will take place Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is asking for toys and books to be given as gifts to underprivileged children.

As for Mitchell’s future with the Fever, the 5-foot-8 guard must negotiate a new deal with the team. Her current contract is already up and she will become an unrestricted free agent when the window officially opens on February 1.
