New Met Marcus Semien is confident he still has ‘a lot to offer’ offensively

The 2025 season has been frustrating for Marcus Semien.

Semien was among the most durable players in MLB throughout his 13-year career, but he was limited to just 127 games due to a season-ending foot injury suffered in August.

Even when he was on the field, it was a bit disappointing for the veteran as he saw his production decline at the plate for the second straight campaign.

After averaging 31 homers and 90 RBIs over the previous five years, he mustered just 15 and 62 to go along with the worst .669 OPS of his career before the injury.

So many are wondering if Semien still has anything left in the tank.

Although the Dishes mainly aimed at it in the Brandon Nimmo agreement for its defense and leadership, David Stearns implies they feel there is some rebound potential in his bat.

The 35-year-old also remains confident in his ability to help this team.

“I want to play until they tell me to go home,” he said. “At this point in my career, it’s extremely good to have a team that believes in me, sees the things I do well and wants to help me. Offensively, I think I still have a lot to offer.

“I’m disappointed with the way I played last year. I had a good start to 2024 and I think just having conversations with Jeff-Albertand I can’t wait to talk to Troy Snitker on what I need to do to be that MVP caliber bat in this lineup.

Semien showed flashes of return to form before being forced to the sidelines, hitting .270 with 12 home runs and an .801 OPS over his final 71 games of the season.

It would certainly be a huge boost for this roster if he was able to do it one more time during his first year in the Big Apple.
