Brewers say Brandon Woodruff return doesn’t mean Freddy Peralta trade is imminent: ‘Independent decisions’

THE Dishes need to start pitching, and there are options this offseason, whether on the free agent market or the trade market.

However, the Brewers let it be known that the ace Freddy Peralta Being treated is not inevitable.

After Brandon Woodruff was one of four players to accept the $22 million offer to return to Milwaukee, many believed it was a precursor to the Brewers trading Peralta – whose contract is expiring – to recoup his assets. ESPN’s Jeff Passan executives cited with interest who thought the chances of a Peralta trade would “increase significantly” if Woodruff accepted the qualifying offer.

Brewers owner Marc Attanasio and President of Baseball Operations Matt Arnold commented to The Athletic Tuesday evening, one decision has no impact on the other.

“Independent decisions that Matt and his group will make,” Attanasio told The Athletic. “We’re certainly excited about our rotation now.”

Peralta is only set to make $8 million in 2026, a very team-friendly deal that the Brewers could afford, but with the threat of losing their best pitcher to free agency at the end of the season, this might be the best chance to get the most out of a deal, especially after the year the 29-year-old just had. The 2025 season was arguably Peralta’s best as a professional. In 33 starts, he compiled a 17-6 record and a 2.70 ERA. He made his second All-Star team and finished fifth in Cy Young voting.

Currently, the Mets starting rotation is in a state of uncertainty. Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes, Kodai Senga And Nolan McLean expected to be part of the mix while the Mets are president of baseball operations David Stearns looking to add and re-rotate this offseason.

It’s not yet known which pitcher(s) he can get as Stearns navigates an ever-changing offseason.

“There are teams that are still wondering where they’re going this offseason,” Stearns told SNY’s Andy Martino during the general managers’ meetings. “I have experience and I recognize that the positions at general manager meetings are not always the positions that a club takes at the winter meetings and may not be the position that a club takes at the end of January. These things can evolve at the end of the offseason and be really difficult for me to predict at this point… what we try to do is stay involved in the conversations and make sure that we are informed as much as possible and that allows us to make the best decisions decisions.”

Aside from Peralta, the Mets could try to land other high-profile starters like Tarik Skubal of their respective clubs. They have young talents like Jonah Tong And Brandon Sproat that they can use as trade chips, but that’s not the only avenue Stearns needs to add to the Mets rotation.

Other arms like Dylan Cease, Framber Valdez And Michael King are available through a free agency.
