(Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, golf journalist) ○… Jon Rahm (Spain) maintained his world number 1 ranking.
In the official weekly world golf rankings announced on the afternoon of the 10th (Korean time), he scored 9.80 points, demonstrating his “number 1 power”. Earlier in the morning, at Plantation Golf Course (par 73, 7,596 yards) at the Kapalua Resort on the island of Maui, Hawaii, USA, he finished second (33-under 259) in the first PGA Tour event of 2022, the Sentry Tournament of Champions (total prize pool $8.2 million), adding to his points. Collin Morikawa remains in 2nd place (8.75 points).
Morikawa is tied for 5th place (25-under 267), which appears to have widened the gap. Dustin Johnson is 3rd, Patrick Cantlay 4th and Justin Thomas (all Americans) 5th. Cameron Smith (Australia) moved from 21st to 10th, entering the “Top 10” with his wire-to-wire victory at the Sentry Tournament. South Korea has three players in the “Top 100”: Im Sung-jae (24) at 24th, Kim Si-woo (27) at 53rd and Lee Kyoung-hoon (31) at 64th.
