At the most crucial moment, the dishes simply give it

If you want to believe that the spells somehow conspire against the Put While their joker berth escapes, Jacob YoungThe two spectacular catches of the central field wall during the 3-2 Sunday defeat against the Nationals of Washington, one which included the kick to the sky to prevent it from hitting the ground, played in this story.

As Carlos Mendoza Said with astonishment: “I have never seen this before.”

But if you have watched these dishes play terrible baseball in recent days, weeks, even months, from their bad defense to a bone basket in bats that is too often silent, you know that it is the most distant thing from the truth.

It is not fate. The dishes have played badly for a large part of the last three months – 17 games of less than 0,500 since June 13. And now it seems that they are also collapsing under the weight of trying desperately to avoid the embarrassment of missing the playoffs with their star list and their gazillion of meters.

In short, there is really no other way to say it: they give it.

How to explain the loss of two of the three games to the humble national games at such a crucial time of the season differently, and play defense in tatters when their goal should be as increased as possible.

How to explain otherwise not to bring together a real offense Jake IrvinOne of the worst starters of the majors in recent weeks, as evidenced by its 9.36 MPM in its last seven departures. Or the inability to mark the Nationals of the Nationals, of which the 5.60 ERA entering the Sunday, is classified last to MLB.

How to explain otherwise all the defensive errors and Baserunning lately, to the point where a week ago, Mendoza admitted: “We are not playing well at the moment.”

All this only happens as a team as talented as these dishes when they play firmly, tightening the sawdust, trying not to make mistakes rather than playing freely.

And now, the prospect of a complete collapse is more real than ever, after the Reds of Cincinnati won their fifth consecutive match on Sunday to shoot even with the PETS for the third point of Joker – but not really, because they owned the equality break if the teams finish with the same record.

So, in truth, the dishes are suddenly late, to the point where even by winning their last six games, three in Chicago against the Cubs and three in Miami against the Marlins, would only obtain them if the Reds cooperate.

In the Mets clubhouse on Sunday, Brandon Nimmo Was a group interview when the Reds score became final, and he was asked if he could believe that the dishes were now outside the playoffs.

“Yeah, I can certainly believe it,” he said. “It happens right in front of our eyes.”

Yes, the food has been sliding for weeks, leaving teams like the Reds, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Giants of San Francisco in the race. And the more these teams got closer, the worse the food than the food played.

On Sunday, in fact, in what the dishes had to feel an essential game, they met the moment with a litany of errors early which contributed to a deficit of 3-0 in the second round.

There was Juan Soto Have the first base withdrawn. There was a launch error Francisco Lindor This contributed to fueling the three -point rally of the Nationals. There was an escape from a routine earth ball by Pete Alonso For another error.

There was also Sean Manaea Abandon a two -point home run to a light backup stop named named Nasim Nuñez On a fast flat ball, which led journalists to ask him why, as Mendoza said, he could not raise his quick ball again.

Said Manaea, after several seconds of reflection: “I don’t know.”

Even with all this, the worst error of the dishes in some respects, and which embodies their game recently, was Mullins Cedrique“The lack of awareness of the basics that have proven to be expensive.

It happened on a strange game in fourth round: with Luis Torrens In the second goal, the Mullins fly ball on the left field line first seemed to be captured by a dive Daylen Lile. But as he touched the ground, the ball came out of his glove, and according to Mendoza, referee of the third base Jeremie Rehak Made a safe sign, indicating that the ball was at stake.

With the ball in sight on the ground, and Lile twisted in pain, Torrens took no risk and returned to tagle, then ran to mark as the ball remained intact on the ground. Mullins, on the other hand, said that he saw no signal of the referees (no more coach of the first base Antoan Richardson), and because he saw Torrens taguler, “my hypothesis is that it was an outing.”

He therefore lingered around the first base, looking at Torrens to run. Meanwhile, Mendoza said, “We all shouted the canoe” to go to the second row. Mullins did not hear them and only noticed when he finally started to return to the canoe himself. At that time, the referees had called timeless time, and although Mullins went to the second row (it was labeled, although Mendoza said they would have challenged), the play was tried Dead and Mullins was awarded to the first goal.

Obviously, Mullins should not have supposed, because he did not see a signal and continued to run. And that counted when he was immediately doubled first on Lindor’s Line Drive to Josh Bell. When Soto followed with a double in the right field, Mullins’ error has moved even more.

If the dishes of the dishes had come to life at one point, of course, the piece would have been a footnote. Instead, this has potentially had a major impact on the result. Another error that has become far too common for this ball club.

And now the dishes are against. In their quiet clubhouse, the players insisted so that they always believe. But the tone of their comments has moved like hunters now.

“We put ourselves in this position, we have to find a way,” said Lindor. “If we want to be where we want to be, we have to play better.”

“We can turn it on in an instant,” added Nimmo.

At this point, however, it is difficult to believe that they can simply return a switch. They were a mediocre team longer than it is a good road on this long road of a season.

And above all, no matter what they do, they now need help.
