Three things remain true about Jonathan Kuminga and his future: 1) he wants a bigger role with a team, to be a focal point among the first two, something that does not happen in Golden State immediately; 2) Kuminga remains in an impasse with the Golden Warriors during his next contract (a problem which will be solved by October 1, in one way or another); 3) A divorce between the parties seems inevitable.
This is why Kuminga agent Aaron Turner recently toured the media. He argued that if the Warriors do not go up the offers to the limited free agent – specifically giving Kuminga a player option rather than a team option in the last year of their offers – he will take the qualification offer, will play for a year, then become a free agent. Here’s what Turner said about Espn Podcast “The Hoop Collective”.
“He wants to choose where he wants to go. So QO is real for sure.”
Golden State made three offers in Kuminga (which we know). The most recent and most important contract is an agreement of three years worth $ 75.2 million, with a team option for the third year. The other main one was an offer of $ 45 million over two years, but with a team option in the second year and the Warriors ask Kuminga to give up the non-exchange clause which would be delivered with this offer. The third was an agreement of $ 54 million over three years which was well below the fair market value for the attacker entering his fifth season.
The first two of them are set up to make Kuminga a commercial chip – but one where he has no real control. The lever effect of Kuminga is that he will adopt the qualification offer of the Warriors – he obtains a clause without exchange, he would probably play the season with the Warriors, then become a free agent next summer. It comes with a risk and around $ 16 million remaining on the table this season, but Turner stressed that it was at stake.
“If JK wants to take (the qualification offer), she has increased, right? We have talked about it. You are not exchanged. You will have a free agency without restriction. People will say:” Well, Aaron, there will not be 10 or 12 teams (with a ceiling space). “Very well, there will be six teams with a ceiling space for the tople under 35 on the market.
In one way or another, it seems that the Warriors and Kuminga are heading for a split – in a team aimed at winning now with Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green as natural ovens, where Kuminga integrates? The Warriors coach Steve Kerr has never fully trusted Kuminga (sometimes with reasons), and it seems that the sides are locked up. The Warriors spoke to trade with Sacramento and Phoenix, but no agreement was concluded.
The most likely result is a compromise contract between the Warriors and Kuminga which allows him to do control, but sets up a profession, something that Turner talked about in a Appearance of 95.7 the game in San Francisco.
“Another point is: it is probably … chances are that it will be exchanged. The player’s option is the signal that loves it, make it work. And you know, for us, we see it with regard to its market at a certain level, you know, $ 24 million.
It is a sticky mess of a situation, but with an absolute deadline – Kuminga must take the qualification offer by October 1. Either a new agreement is concluded by then, or Kuminga will pick up the offer and take place this season with the Warriors, eyes forward next summer. This is not a good situation for Kuminga or the Warriors, which is why a kind of two or three years contract is probably developed in the next 10 days.
However, it is shaking, by October 1, Kuminga will have a new contract and will be on the path of another team. Wherever it could be.
