It’s been a long time since Michigan football has not had Rod Moore on the field, in uniform, playing. The last time Roads made sure that the double captain of the wandering team in the defensive rear field was on January 8, 2024, during the national championship match against Washington. But after having torn his ACL in the spring ball last year, Moore was not only released, he faced setbacks.
During the last two games, Moore was in uniform, but he has not yet been on the field for a single snap. This day seems to approach soon, according to the acting coach, Biff Poggi. Regarding his direct position coach, Lamar Morgan, he patiently expects to have Moore on the ground for the first time in his mandate as Michigan football coaches.

“Yeah, I’m excited for Rod. He worked very hard,” said Morgan. “He tries to get a lot of value in training, trying to get head-on, team representatives and things like that. I think he and the medical team and his family have a good plan. And we just try to support him when it is ready. I think he tends in the right direction, being physical, his veloity is really good in practice, rehearsals and things like that. Soon.”
In this spirit, what are the most important attributes that Moore brings to the table in Morgan’s eyes? It is not only its capacity for play – it is the leadership it provides.
There is a reason why Moore has been elected a team captain each of the last two years, but Morgan likes what he sees his fifth year senior in terms of leadership, holding his responsible teammates and how he can direct the action when he is on the ground.
“I think that a child like him or a young man like him, I just think he is a soothing factor,” said Morgan. “I think that when you are playing security, just like the second Mike, like Ernie, the guys like to be on the field with you because they know what’s going on.

“And communication, he is like a field coach. So, I just think you get an additional guy without being an additional green point on the field which is really a leader, an excellent communicator, a difficult child. I think you get a leader and a model. And I think many of our guys now see that he has retaliated by the injuries he had.
“So I think he can push guys. Sometimes the coaches do it all the time. And I think that now you just win an additional guy on the field who can push his teammates by the way he acts and the way he responds to adversity, good or bad games.
We will see on Saturday if Moore is able to leave. The Wolverines go to Lincoln to face the Nebraska for a kick -off of 3.30 p.m. at the Memorial Stadium.
