Cleveland goalkeepers right -handed Luis Ortiz is under survey by Major League Baseball after a betting company in the bets reported a pair of throws which had received an unusual game activity, sources said in ESPN on Thursday.

Sources have said that the IC360 betting integrity company had sent an alert in June to Sportsbook operators concerning Ortiz, that MLB placed in “paid non -disciplinary leave” until July 17.

The alert, according to sources that examined it, refer to the action on the first throws of Ortiz selecting in the sleeves to be a successful ball or drummer in two games: June 15 against the Seattle Mariners and June 27 against the Cardinals of Saint-Louis. At the bottom of the second round against the navy and at the top of the third round against the cardinals, Ortiz launched a cursor on the first land which was well outside the striking area.

Ortiz’s first alert reported bets in Ohio, New York and New Jersey. Paris on the result of the first locations are offered by certain sports books, with these bets commonly known as microbets.

The paid leave of Ortiz, which ends at the end of the stars break, was negotiated between the League and the MLB Players Association. If the investigation remains open, the leave could be extended.

Ortiz had to start the match Thursday evening against the Chicago Cubs.

Chris Antonetti, president of Cleveland baseball operations, said before Thursday’s match that the team could continue to contact Ortiz, but he cannot enter the Guardians facilities. Ortiz returned to Cleveland on Wednesday evening.

“We learned very little last night, but we knew that we had to get someone here today to start the game of today, and it was really our goal,” said Antonetti. “Many things have come out today, and it’s much more information than us.

“Our goal is that we will let the investigation process take place. Insofar as the major baseball league or anyone needs our support in this, we will cooperate obviously. But beyond, there is really not much that we can do.”

Manager Stephen Vogt said he and Antonetti had addressed the team on the situation of Ortiz and tried to answer questions as best they could.

“Honestly, when I got the news yesterday, I didn’t know how to feel myself,” said Vogt. “There are so many unknowns with that, but you know what? Each team goes through adversity, perhaps different types, but it is a resilient group. I have already experienced situations similar to that in my career as a player, and that I would have wanted to hear? How I would have liked the manager to react, and that’s what I try to do.”

The survey on Ortiz’s potential violation of the league game policy comes just over a year after the MLB allowed a life ban against San Diego Padres The inner field player Tucupita Marcano for having placed nearly 400 Paris on baseball. Four other players received one -year suspensions for playing on baseball in minor leagues. In February, MLB dismissed the referee Pat Hoberg – widely recognized as the best ball ball referee in the game – to “share” a legal sports betting account with a friend who bet on baseball and later deleting messages to the investigation.

A 26 -year -old launcher, Ortiz was acquired by Cleveland Pirates of Pittsburgh During winter as part of the trade at three teams in which the Guardians sent a second goal player Andres Gimenez At Toronto Blue Jays. With a file of 4-9 and 4.36 ERA, Ortiz was a must in a rotation of the Guardians whose 4.13 era ranks 18th in MLB.

Ortiz’s leave comes in the middle of a slide for the Guardians, who lost six consecutive games to spend 40-44. While Cleveland remains second in the central American League, he follows first place Detroit By 12½ games.

Ortiz signed with the pirates in 2018 at 19, much later than the typical perspective, and reached the full ball in 2021. He quickly crossed the organization of Pittsburgh and made his debut in 2022, finally launching 238⅓ sleeves and publishing a 3.93 MPM during his three seasons with the pirates.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
