On “The Morning Drive” by Siriusxm Nascar Radio, Rudy Fugle, team leader for n ° 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet and driver William Byronoffered his reflections on the return of the “Chaos tire” of Bristol last weekend.
Making the “magic temperature of the track”, the night race of Bristol produced 36 Lead changes (against four in the spring race), but also 14 warnings.

Fugle gave an interesting perspective on Monday, noting that what we saw was more on the tires shredding than the real degradation of the tires, and that it was not a real return to Bristol Racing “ Old ”. He also thinks that cooler temperatures had more impact than the new right side tire, saying that the old tire may have reacted in the same way under the same conditions.
“Whoever made this decision, I am not in these conversations, but we were told that it was the plan,” said Fugle. “They wanted it to be this kind of race. I don’t know that it is 100% something goodyear. If we were running the old right tire, we were going to be a few degrees from this goal on the tires with or not.
“If someone asks for my help, which he does sometimes or does not do it, I don’t even know what is the goal. Fans want one of these two races, or are they wanted in 1995? If they want in 1995, it was not one or the other of these races, in my opinion. If you want 1995, it will not come from a goodyear tire.

Bristol has undergone several changes since 2007, which initially gives it a progressive bank and makes the upper way dominant. To try to go back, the track was based on the upper track and as the track evolved, it has become less and less like the Bristol which sold years in advance. The series officials even put dirt on it at some point to try to revive the spark.
Fugle spoke of all this, and as he has already indicated, he just wants there to be a clear vision of the future of the race in Bristol – anyway.
“If that’s what we want (1995 Bristol), we were able to put this on the wall and say that this is what we are trying to achieve,” said Fugle. “We are not trying to perform 40 turns and the tires that shive and a mess or other. All of these things are fine. When we run, we align ourselves and we race. And each of these types of breeds are difficult for teams, drivers, and we appreciate this challenge differently.
“You just like to know what to expect … We don’t even know what the objective is, so once we determine what is the goal of making someone happy, so we will try to go and fight it, but I don’t even know what we are trying to achieve.”
The drivers could not do much to save the tires

While he was thinking about the race, Fugle said he had realized what was going on around the Tour 25. “No one was sure it was going to happen, so it was a surprise once we started to see the balls starting to come together on the exterior groove. It was a revealing sign, probably around (tower) 25, but I noticed this and we said to William and that we were trying to run.
And although tire preservation has become essential for a successful night, Fugle claims that you could not do much about the steering wheel.
“You were not in control much, which was – it was my disappointment. And it was the thing that made it convincing, but it was more shredding of the tires than the degradation of the tires. You want to put the pilots in control and they were not as in control as you wanted them to be in a breed of saving the tires ”. It was the difficult part.
It was also difficult to plan the strategy, to have to adapt quickly to the early race in “safe mode” and to start adjusting the car for the updated situation. Another curve was the amount of tires at their disposal. While Goodyear finally published an additional set, Fugle said there were about 100-150 laps when they did not know if it was going to happen.
“It was really difficult to plan and use your sets of tires differently because there was the big Si, then I think that (while preparing) for stadium 3, we were told that they were going to be released, then our strategy could be a little more, clear because we knew that we were going to have the additional set of tires.
“… it was about the tip of the feet all night.”
The unpredictable night also did not follow the n ° 24, because Byron suffered from nose damage to mid-term, then was overthrown in the wall during the final restart while it was inside the top ten, ending 12th.
“It’s just the charts that come from everywhere,” said Fugle. “You didn’t even know where the punches came from. So it was quite difficult.”
