While the league recognized the gap, they said that nothing intentional had changed with the Rawlings baseball balls.
“In recent seasons, MLB has made information from drag on the public online, which is updated daily during the season,” MLB spokesperson Glen Caplin told Athletic in a statement. “We are aware of an increase in average drag this season and provided information to the association of Major League baseball players on this issue while our experts continue to study all the potential causes beyond normal variability in a hand-made product with natural materials. There was no change in the manufacture, storage or handling of baseball balls this year, and all baseball remain in the specifications. ”
During the closed -door meetings, Commissioner Rob Manfred would have recognized that the baseball bullets behaved differently. This is something on which the MLBPA also keeps an eye on.
“The Association of Players has monitored baseball behavior throughout the season and recently contacted the commissioner’s office to examine the available data and request additional information on a range of baseball measures,” the Athletic Kevin Slowey, CEO of MLBPA, told MLBPA.
