Maple Leafs of TorontoCanadian professional ice hockey team based in Toronto who plays in the east Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Maple Leafs have one of the most starry passes in hockey, having won the Stanley Cup 13 times.

The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL’s founding teams in 1917 and were known for the first time under the name of Toronto Arenas before taking the name of Saint-Patrick in 1919. The team won two Stanley cuts during the first five years of the NHL (in the seasons 1917-1918 and 1921-22). In 1927, the team was bought by Conn Smythe And renamed the Maple Leafs (often shortened in “The Leafs” by fans and the media). Toronto won the Stanley Cup during the 1931-1932 season behind the “Line Kid”, which presented three future members of Hockey Hall of Fame –Charlie Conacher, Busher Jackson, and Joe Primeau – All under 26 years of age.

Between 1932-1933 and 1939-1940, the Leafs appeared in six finals of the Stanley Cup but lost each time. The team pierced and won a championship in 1941-1942, which was the first of five titles under coach Hap Day, who had previously played in the team for 13 seasons. In 1942, Toronto added a center Ted KennedyWho led the team to the last four titles of the day as well as another in 1950-1951. A team rebuilt of the Maple Leafs led by the head coach Punch Imlach and packed with the future temple of fame (the right wing and the George Armstrong center, goalkeeper Johnny Bower, center Kelly Red, Center Dave Keon, defender Tim Hortonthe left wing Frank Mahovlich, left wing Bob Pulford and the defender Allan Stanley) won three Stanley cuts in a row from 1961 to 1962 to 1963-1964 and another during the 1966-1967 season.

In the 1970s, the Leafs dealt with their first prolonged futility fight, because this decade was the first in which the team failed to win a title, despite the center of the stars of the center Darryl Sittler and defender Börje Salming for most of this time. During the following decade, Toronto fell further from restraintNot more ending than the third in his division and never exceeding the second round of the playoffs in the 1980s. In 1994, the Leafs acquired the future leader in the franchise of the franchise of the franchise Mats Sundin, who led the team as a first division in 37 years during the 1999-2000 season; However, the sustained success of the playoffs continued to escape the franchise, which never passed the conference final during the 13 seasons of Sundin in Toronto.

After a drought of seven years-season record of the franchise, the Maple Leafs returned to the playoffs in 2012-2013 to extend the misery of the tortured fans of the team by losing the seventh decisive match of its opening series after having managed the management of the Directorate of the Management of the Directorate the conduct of the extension after leading the leading Boston Bruins 4–1 halfway from the last period. Toronto then concluded a period of reconstruction which led to a young team of Maple Leafs qualifying unexpectedly for the playoffs in 2016-2017 (a first round defeat against the upper seed Washington Capitals During which five of the six games came into overtime), a season after the franchise displayed the worst NHL record. The Maple Leafs have become a regular post-season element in the following years, but failed to pass beyond the first round of the playoffs during this period.

Despite the team’s later lack, the Maple Leafs regularly rank at the NHL top presenceDue to the fervor of Toronto hockey fans as well as the team of long -standing rivalries of the team. The most bitter of these quarrels is with the Montreal Canadianswho plays on tensions between Quebec and Ontario (and those between English -speaking Canadians and French -speaking Canadians) and is considered by many to be the greatest rivalry in hockey.
