National League (NL)older professional existing professional in major leagues baseball organization in the UNITED STATES. The League began playing in 1876 as the National League for Professional Baseball Clubs, replacing the failure of the National Association of Professional Basic Ball Players. The League supremacy was challenged by several rival organizations over the years, starting with the American Association in 1882-1891. Among these, only the American LeagueTrained in 1900, survived. From 1903, the champions of the national and American leagues engaged in a World Series competition to decide the championship of Major League Baseball. The National League consists of 15 teams aligned in three divisions. In the NL East are the Braves of Atlanta,, Miami Marlins,, New York Mets,, Philadelphia PhilliesAnd Nationals of Washington (DC).
