KansasTHE University of Nebraska,, OklahomaTHE University of Missouri,, Iowa The state and state of kansas were members of the Conference of the Missouri Valley (formed in 1907) but separated in 1928 to form the Big 6 conference. It became the big 7 when the University of Colorado joined the conference in 1948 and the Big 8 when the Oklahoma State was added in 1959. The conference developed in 1996 Texas universities (Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Texas A & M University) left the Southwest Conference And joined the Big 8.
As Big 12, it was divided into two divisions with six teams, one of which consisted in the two schools of Oklahoma and four schools in Texas. The structure of the conference changed again when announced in 2010 that Colorado was leaving to join the Pacific conference-12 And that the Nebraska left to join the Big Ten Conference. In 2012, Missouri and Texas A&M left the conference To join the Southeast conference and have been replaced by Virginie-Western and Texas Christian. In 2023 Brigham Young UniversityTHE University of Florida CentraleTHE Cincinnati Universityand the University of Houston joined the Big 12. In 2024, the Texas University and the Oklahoma University left the conference to join the Southeast conference (Dry), and the University of Arizona,, Arizona State UniversityTHE University of Coloradoand the University of Utah were added to the Big 12. Despite the various changes in the conference membership, the Big 12 decided to keep its name well known.
