There are exciting developments on the farm for Pittsburgh Penguins.

With more talent in the system they had in the recent memory, Penguins Have several perspectives of interest to keep an eye on. We will examine how some of the best defensive prospects of the organization are currently being held in our update of March prospects.

Harrison Brunicke

October 4, 2024; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States; The Pittsburgh Penguins defender, Harrison Brunicke (45), patina with the washer against the Blue Jackets Columbus during the third period at PPG Paints Arena. (Charles Leclaire-Imagn Images)

Despite the lack of more than two months due to A fracture of the wrist supported on November 14Brunicke has not missed a beat this season.

The 18 -year -old Blueliner recorded five goals and 30 points in 41 games with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL this season, and that followed a wonderful training camp which saw him do the finals.

Unfortunately, its production was not enough to help raise the Blazers to the playoffs, but it may have been a bit of a disguised blessing. Because the Blazers season is over, the choice of second round in 2024 (44th in total) should be recalled in Wilkes -Barre / Scranton (WBS) – Ahl Ahl Ahl of Pittsburgh – to help the team to its Calder Cup race, which was filled yesterday during a 4-3 victory in overtime against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Skating, intelligence, mobility and ability of Brunicke to enter inside adversaries of both the ice is the principles of his game, and if he increases a little more and adds a certain size to his 3 -inch frame, it will be the complete package. Penguins fans should be very enthusiastic about Brunicke, as it is – no doubt – their best prospect, end.

And honestly? Yes, he is on the right track to make the call to WBS – but it would not be so shocking to see him get a few games in Pittsburgh at the end of the season.

Owen Pickering

January 5, 2025; Raleigh, North Carolina, United States; Pittsburgh's Penguins defender Owen Pickering (38) launched against the Hurricanes of Carolina during the second period at the Lenovo Center. (James Guillory-Imagn images)

After a passage of 25 games in Pittsburgh earlier this seasonPickering was reassigned to WBS in January for development purposes. And although he saw a bit of a return period of return to the AHL, the choice of first round in 2022 (21st in total) certainly contributed to the cause of the WBS.

Pickering can only have two goals and nine points in 39 AHL games this season, but his match stops in other regions. The 6 -foot left bluelrier 5 inches and 200 pounds develops a stop match more, which fans of Pittsburgh saw glimpses during his passage in the NHL.

It would be good to see more production showing up for Pickering, which could ultimately happen. Defenders – big and tagged, in particular – tend to take a little more time to develop than other players. Patience will be the key to Pickering, but it is already starting to complete a lot of details that the organization wanted to see out of it.

It is just to expect it to be on the NHL list full-time in 2025-2026.

Emil Pieniniemi

Pieniniemi, 20, continues to impress a little this season in the Ontario League. In 60 games with the Kingston Frontenacs, the choice of third round of 2023 (91st in total) recorded 10 goals and 60 points, and he and his team will play the Wolves of Sudbury in the first round of the Ontario 2025 eliminations series.

He finished sixth by scoring Ontario among the defender, and He helped lead Finland to lead money in the world junior championship at the turn of the new year. After being written mainly for his defensive instincts and killing the game, the defender of 6 feet 3 inches and 180 pounds also developed a powerful offensive game, which really helped his stock to increase within the organization and in the classification of perspectives.

He will not be eligible for junior hockey next season, so Pieniniiemi will probably play in Lah. And – depending on the extent to which the Frontenacs go to the playoffs – it is not out of the question that he joined Brunicke by playing for WBS by the end of this season.

Finn Harding

Two slots behind Pieniniemi by scoring in the OHL this season were the defender Finn Harding (seven goals, 57 points in 67 games), who was a selection of seventh round (223rd in total) by the Penguins in 2024.

Like Pieniniemi and the Frontenacs, Brampton Steelheads of Harding Will Vye for the Ohl Championship this spring, and they will face the generals of Oshawa in the first round. His offensive game has made progress this season, which adds to an already strict presence on the Blueline as a reliable defender on the rush and with his control of the gaps.

Becoming a regular at the NHL is more a longshot for Harding than for the players mentioned above. But it continues to prove – at least, so far – that its value exceeds its warming positioning. If Harding can really refine his double -sense game and improve his skating, he could very well be a reliable NHL NHL defender in the future.

And, in the end, having a defensive depth certainly does not harm the Penguins – especially on the right side, where they are thinner on organizational depth.

Chase Pietila

The impressive college season of Pietila with the Michigan Huskies Tech He earned him an entry -level contract with the Penguins on March 9.. He recorded seven goals and 22 points in 36 games – as well as 32 blocked shots – for the Huskies, and he was also Appointed the defensive defender of the year of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCA).

The 2 -foot 2 -inch and 186 pound blueliner was drafted in the fourth round (111st in total) by the Penguins in 2024. During two seasons with the Huskies, Pietila scored 10 goals and 44 points in 76 NCAA games.

Although he does not have a set or a skill of particular tools that stands out, Pietila – like Harding – is a reliable defender. Its most likely path to NHL will be in a stop role, and this is something that the Penguins could use on the right side of their blueberry.

At 21, Pietila will probably play in WBS next season. He has already played two games for the team this season and will be there for the eliminatory race.

Daniel Laatsch

Laatsch, 23, has spent the last three seasons playing for the University of Wisconsin. The left defender was a selection of seventh round (215th in total) by the Penguins in 2021, and in four seasons with the badgers, he recorded six goals and 26 points and only 18 minutes of total penalty.

The 6 -foot 5 -inch and 180 pound Laatsch certainly knows how to use its framework to its advantage, but a lot of details in its game still need refinement. He could also develop a little more physical element in his game.

Nevertheless, He obtained an entry -level contract of two years with the Penguins on March 10. Laatsch should be a solid signature of organizational depth for penguins, but there is still room for growth.

Isaac Belliveau

25 Sep 2022; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States; Pittsburgh's Penguins defender, Isaac Belliveau (78), moves the washer against the Blue Jackets Columbus during the second period at PPG Pains Arena. (Philip G. Images Pavely-Imagn)

It was a season of ups and downs for Belliveau, which was a choice of fifth round (154th in total) in 2021 by the Penguins. He spent time at AHL and ECHL, recording three goals and 11 points in 16 games with the Nailers Wheeling and a goal and seven points in 22 games with WBS.

Although the main draw from Belliveau to his game is on the offensive side, he must still work on some of the defensive details. He entered and out of the alignment with the AHL team, so he is currently parked in ECHL for development and for the opportunity to play every day.

Given the rich swimming pool of defensive perspective in the Penguins system, Belliveau will have to make major progress in 2025-2010 to have a chance to crack the NHL range with Pittsburgh.
