Surprise, Arizona – The Texas Rangers signed Tuesday the left -hander of free agent Patrick Corbin to a one -year contract, plugging a lasting veteran in their stumbling start.
Corbin, who will enter his 13th major league season, has experienced difficulties in most of his $ 140 million contract over six years with the Nationals of Washington, but he is a double All-Star which is the only launcher in the baseball to have made 31 or more departures with each full season since 2017.
The Rangers placed the right -hander Jon Gray on the list of 60 days injured to make room on the list of 40 men for Corbin. Gray broke his right wrist when he was hit by an online journey in a spring training match on Friday. The left -handed Cody Bradford, who was prevented from launching last week when he developed pain in his elbow, will start the season on the injured list.
Injuries were a problem for the rotation last year, but the re-signing of Nathan Eovaldi and the return of Jacob Degrom and Tyler Mahle after the recovery of elbow surgeries delayed their debut in 2024 if the championships of the world series 2023 seemed to be in good shape by entering spring training.
Corbin, who recorded the third most important rounds in Major League Baseball since he burst into the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012, was a stabilizer.
“A competitor, according to all the accounts, just a winning personality, someone who will integrate well in our clubhouse and offers us additional protection,” the president of baseball operations, Chris Young, told journalists. “We also think that there are things we saw in the second half of last year with his performance which indicates that he can continue and be a launcher starting from the major league very usable, which we need at the moment.”
Corbin had a solid season of the beginnings with the Nationals in 2019, when he equaled his career summit of 14 victories, posted an MPM of 3.25 in 33 departures and was the winning launcher of match 7 of the World Series. But he went 33-70 with an MPM of 5.62 in the next five years after the pandemic abstracted the 2020 season.
The 35 -year -old man has granted the most success (208) and won races (109) in the major leagues in 2024, but he finished second out of the 91 nationals with 174 2/3 rounds. In 342 career appearances, including 324 departures, Corbin is 103-131 with an MPM of 4.51 and 1,729 stick withdrawals in 1892 1/3 sleeves.
