Looking back the last 27 years of the Pennzoil 400 Nascar Las Vegas race

Nascar goes to Las Vegas for the first time this season.

Le Pennzoil 400 is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. CT on Sunday March 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the first of the two races on the track this season.

Nascar has been broadcast in Las Vegas Motor Speedway since 1998 with big names winning the Pennzoil 400 through its history, even if it has had different titles over the years. Some of these big names include dominant characters on the track, notably Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano.

Here is a story of each breed Pennzoil 400 Nascar Las Vegas.

1998: Mark Martin claims that the first victory in the first Las Vegas 400

Mark Martin won the Nascar race in Las Vegas Motor Speedway, leading 82 of the 267 laps to mark the victory. Jeff Burton had a penalty from the stands road and fought to finish second in the race.

1999: Jeff Burton wins the second Las Vegas 400

After finishing second last season after a penalty on the stands road, Jeff Burton dominated the second trip of the Nascar Cup Series to Las Vegas. His brother, Ward Burton, finished second after leading 71 laps.

2000: Jeff Burton again wins victory with rain in Las Vegas

Jeff Burton has known many solid years in Las Vegas and won his second victory on the track after spending his teammate Roush Racing, Mark Martin, and led the last 13 laps before the race was shortened from 267 laps to 148 due to the rain.

2001: Jeff Gordon wins Uaw-Daimlerchrysler 400

Jeff Gordon ran forward all over the race and found a way to pass Dale Jarrett and Sterling Marlin to mark the 53rd victory of his career in the Nascar Cup series. Gordon led 33 laps and won the championship this season.

2002: Marlin Sterling in Las Vegas

After finishing third from the previous season, Sterling Marlin broke and marked his ninth career victory in the NASCAR CUP. Marlin had to fight through a penalty and hold a hard field with Jeremy Mayfield and Mark ending the second and third respectively.

2003: Matt Kenseth only wins the championship season

Matt Kenseth’s Nascar Cup 2003 series championship had a certain controversy because it only won one race, but was a constantly high finisher throughout the season. This victory took place in the UAW-Diamlerchrysler 400 2003 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kenseth led 88 laps, beating Dale Earnhardt Jr. with a checkerboard flag.

The “Kenseth rule” was introduced in 2004, which created the Chase and Nascar qualifying series.

2004: Matt Kenseth wins again

As a race winner and champion of the Cup series, Kenseth dominated the race by leading 123 laps from the 267 and won the race for his 25th starting position. Kenseth beaten Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart in a checkerboard flag.

2005: Jimmie Johnson begins a strong race in Las Vegas

Jimmie Johnson took the lead for the first time in the race for 147, but was overtaken by Ryan Newman 28 Laps later. However, Johnson returned by Newman, took the lead with around 70 laps to do and was able to keep after a battle with Newman, Jeff Gordon and the native Busch brothers of Las Vegas, Kurt and Kyle.

2006: Jimmie Johnson repeats

Jimmie Johnson exceeded Matt Kenseth in the last corner of a green-truth finish to mark his 20th victory of the season, his second of the season, his second consecutive victory in Las Vegas and the start of his impressive series of five consecutive championships in the Nascar series series.

2007: Jimmie Johnson wins in Las Vegas again

Jimmie Johnson won another victory in Las Vegas, his third consequence, after having exceeded his teammate Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon, to reach the end of the race. Gordon led a record of 111 racing laps, Johnson led 89.

2008: Carl Edwards wins Uaw-Dodge 400

During the first Las Vegas race with the car Gen 5, otherwise known to the car of tomorrow, Carl Edwards took the lead in the 195 round and maintained a solid field with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Greg Biffle to mark the victory.

2009: Kyle Busch Score Wan in Shelby 427

The Base of Carroll Shelby International is in Las Vegas. In a unique celebration of the Shelby Cobra 427, the race title was changed for the Shelby 427. Kyle Busch, from Las Vegas, led 51 laps and retained Clint Bower to win the post for his only victory in Las Vegas, so far. It was the longest race in Las Vegas Motor Speedway to date.

2010: Jimmie Johnson wins (again) Shelby American

In a continuous celebration of Shelby International, the name of the race has been changed for the Shelby American. Jimmie Johnson marked his fourth record victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after taking the lead from his teammate Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon.

2011: another name change, a familiar winner

In the first iteration of the Kobalt Tools 400, Carl Edwards worked in his third starting position and exceeded Tony Stewart in the last stand at the stand to run away and mark his only victory of the season.

2012: Tony Stewart finally crosses

After being so close to winning in Las Vegas the previous season, Stewart dominated the race and won the leak after leading 127 laps with Jimmie Johnson, Greg Biffle, Ryan Newman and Carl Edwards completing the Top 5.

2013: Matt Kenseth marks the third victory of Las Vegas

Nine years after winning in Las Vegas, Kenseth marked his first victory with Joe Gibbs Racing to win his third and last victory of the Nascar Cup Series in Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kenseth held Kasey Kahne and the poleter Brad Keselowski to win the checkered flag.

2014: Brad Keselowski wins Kobalt Tools 400

From the outside of the front row, Brad Keselowski found a way to stay forward during most of the race with a few battles with Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth. In the last round of the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr. lacked gas during the exit tour 2. Keselowski passed and marked the victory.

2015: Kevin Harvick Marque Las Vegas Win

Kevin Harvick took the lead after traveling stands at the stands with 17 laps to make his 29th career victory in the Nascar Cup series, his first in Las Vegas.

2016: Brad Keselowski wins again in Las Vegas

Kyle Busch started to get late in the race, but had tire problems with 12 laps to do. Brad Keselowski regularly closed on the Busch car and spent it with five laps to steal the victory of the native city driver.

2017: Martin Truex Jr. wins the Kobalt 400 final tools; Joey Logano, Kyle Busch Fight

Martin Truex Jr. swept the steps and won for the first time in Las Vegas en route to his Lone Nascar Cup Series Championship. However, the drama came after the race after an end -of -race incident between Kyle Busch and Joey Logano ended with Busch by loading Logano and punching.

2018: Kevin Harvick wins the first Pennzoil 400

Kevin Harvick led most of the race, the first with the title of Pennzoil 400, and swept the two stages. Harvick dominated the race and sailed his second victory in Las Vegas.

2019: Joey Logano marks the first victory of Las Vegas

By driving the Pennzoil Ford Fusion, Joey Logano won the second step after Kevin Harvick won the first and led 86 laps on his first victory in Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

2020: Joey Logano wins again Pennzoil 400

Chase Elliott won the first two stages of the race and led 70 laps, but met with trouble and finished 26th. Joey Logano led 54 laps and rolled Le Pennzoil Ford in Victory Lane for the second consecutive time at Pennzoil 400.

2021: Kyle Larson is gaining on the way to the championship

Kyle Larson scored a victory in the second stage of the Pennzoil 400 2021 and won his first victory for Hendrick Motorsports en route to his championship in the Nascar series.

2022: Alex Bowman steals the victory in Pennzoil 400

Alex Bowman won his first victory on stage and found a way to win his first victory in Las Vegas Motor Speedway by leading only 16 laps and holding Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain to ensure victory.

2023: William Byron continues Hendrick Motorsports Dominance

William Byron led 176 of the 271 laps, won the two scenes and won his first victory in Las Vegas in Nascar in overtime while his teammates of Hendrick Motorsports, Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman, gave the team a finish 1-2-3.

2024: Kyle Larson wins the second Pennzoil 400

Kyle Larson could not be arrested in the 2024 race, leading 181 laps in one of the most dominant performances in the history of Pennzoil 400.
