Davidson, NC – The goalkeeper of the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry will be the deputy director general of Davidson College basketball teams.

The quadruple NBA champion and double league MVP will be the first active player in major professional sports to take an administrative job with a university team. He will continue to play with the Warriors while playing this newly created role.

Curry and his wife, Ayesha, and the longtime supporters of Davidson Don, Matt and Erica Berman, create an eight-digit fund to support the male and women’s basketball teams. The college asked them to play these advisory roles, invest their time and share their experience with male and female basketball, according to a press release.

Curry will attract the resources and support of the Global Under Armor sports marketing team, one of its main sponsors.

He said he wanted Davidson’s scholars to participate in the best ranks of university athletics in a constantly evolving landscape where athletes are now allowed to take advantage of their name, image and resemblance-something that was not available when he played for three seasons from 2006-2009.

“Davidson’s experience is first -rate,” said Curry, a selection of first team from the South conference three times in Davidson. “My trip when I arrived in Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrate that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, I obtained an excellent education, an incredible network through the former Davidson and continue to shake the Davidson flag. I want very talented and high character students to have the same experience. »»

The vice-president and director of athletics Chris Clunie said that basketball was Davidson’s flagship sport, but the advantages of focusing on this game extend more.

“When our basketball programs succeed,” said Clunie, “they provide essential income and exhibition to support all of our athletics programs and increase the overall visibility of the college.”

Davidson has 16-15 this season in male basketball.

Curry said the objective was to invest in the next student-athlete who arrives in Davidson.

“They don’t have to make discounts of what the market says that they deserve to be part of the brand of what Davidson’s scholar means being integrity in your academic experience,” said Curry. “Commitment to a four -year graduation process offers countless opportunities in a professional way in sport or by changing the situation in life.”

Matt Berman will also serve as Deputy Managing Director alongside Curry.

“Our ability to be a resource and a resonance fund for the program, but also support each athlete student, to develop personal relationships with each of them to guide them at each stage of their Davidson experience,” said Curry.
