Put open their spring training slate with a 6-2 Victory on the Astros of Houston Saturday afternoon in Port St. Lucie, in Florida.

Here are the key elements to know after the match:

Plan to monitor Clay Holmes‘Transition to the starter

Holmes launched three perfect rounds on Saturday, showing the potential he has as a starter. However, there is still a Holmes transition period and the dishes must pass after the right -hander was a lifter for so long.

Director Carlos Mendoza We asked how they planned to monitor Holmes’ health after each departure.

We are going to treat it in the same way as we treat all our starters, “said Mendoza.” It is physically designed for this. He will pass the same tests that we do in the training room.

“Yes, we will look at him but so far, the way he responds … The only thing you have to give a credit is low days. Tomorrow, for example, keeping these days. As a lifter, You want to continue throwing but now you understand that you have four days to recover and adjust this routine and all that.

Holmes said after his departure that he had launched approximately 15 additional land in the enclosure of the lifts. Mendoza confirmed that the plan for Holmes was to launch around 45 throws on Saturday, but as he only threw the mid -1930s, they wanted to stretch their right -hander even more.

Carlos Mendoza’s reaction to see Juan Soto hit

“I love him.”

It was the answer that the skipper Mets asked when he asked how he loved his new right defender. And what’s going to like? Soto inaugurated his mandate as a dish with a home run during his first at-bat on Saturday.

But Mendoza is just as impressed by the way Soto is “locked” each time he climbs in the shot box.

“Quite incredible, will not lie,” said Mendoza. “I watched this guy take bats live in the past four days. Different guys in a different uniform and he is just locked up. Whatever the result, he was a different guy in the box today. You Have just seen his behavior in the box and then he goes there and strikes this circuit.

Fans pack the Clover Park

There were a lot of discussions on the attendance of the Citi Field last season, even if the dishes were in the middle of a push in the playoffs.

However, with renewed enthusiasm and higher expectations – and the addition of Soto – the faithful of the dishes presented themselves on Saturday afternoon.

Clover Park had the second biggest opening match in its history, welcoming 7,394 people.

“Quite well. The 7 line here is quite neat, quite special. Criem them,” said Mendoza about the crowd after the match on Saturday. “I’m going to do myself with Juan (to have his thoughts). I don’t know if he knows him. It’s good to see a house full. Well to see the crowd here today.”

“It was really cool to see them enjoy the moment and enjoy this time,” said Soto about receiving fans. “First year with the food and everything, it will be unforgettable.”
